MARCH 16th: MIXED BOWLING ST.PATTY’S EDITION
(For the uninitiated and newer members, Mixed Bowling refers to couples bowling as a team; think of it as a $10 date night. Insane!)
‘Tis nothing more Irish than living in a world filled with troubles that conspire to sink our spirits at every turn, only to make the best of a dire situation. That heavenly respite is, of course, Mixed Bowling at the Commonwealth Club! On Saturday, March 16th, assuming that you have reserves saved for the 17th, you can blow off steam by hurling heavy objects at defenseless pins that don’t even move!
Sink our spirits, hell, drown our spirits, I say! That’s the spirit! We will gather at 7:15 at the Commonwealth Club and partake in an evening filled with laughter, food (if you bring it), drink (if you buy it), two games of bowling and great music, all for the paltry sum of $10 per couple.
There is a sign up sheet down by the lanes, or you can email me at jfxa@blackwatchproductions that you want to bowl and I will add you to the list. You DO NOT need to be a bowling member of the club to participate in this event, in fact you don’t need to be a member at all-guests are always welcome, so bring your friends! Balls and shoes are available at no cost. We had over 32 bowlers last month, so a word to the wise!
APRIL 20TH: BROOKDALE PARK EARTH DAY WORK DAY
The Brookdale Park Conservancy has set the dates for the next three community volunteer work days.
Saturday, March 23rd, 10-am-12pm: General projects around the park, from knotweed removal at the Field House to additional clearing by pondside, and other projects depending on how many people we have. If you can attend, please send a note to volunteer@brookdalepark.org
Saturday, April 20th, 10am-12pm: Our big Earth Day event. We will focus on finishing clearing out the pondside area, will have several dozen shrubs and plants to go in, and then will have at least a couple of dump trucks worth of mulch to spread around. Busy day planned! Come work in the morning and then enjoy Cajun Fest at the club that night! If you can attend, send a note to volunteer@brookdalepark.org
Saturday, May 18th, 10am-12pm: Specific projects TBD, depending on if we need to finish anything from the previous two work sessions or not. Will have more details later in the season
We’ll most likely take a break on community projects over the summer (too hot, hard to get volunteers) and then we’ll set some dates for Sept, Oct, and Nov.
Thanks! The Brookdale Conservancy appreciates the support we get from Commonwealth Cares!
APRIL 20TH: CAJUN NIGHT
One of the true highlights of our culinary events series! A NOLA feast, complete with all of your favorite foods from the Big Easy, all prepared on site from our talented member chefs! Special Cocktails and desserts as well, plus live music by Mother Hubbard. Not to be missed!
APRIL 25TH: KIWANIS BLOOD DRIVE
Commonwealth Club Blood Drive
Okay everyone, one the easiest volunteer events we’ve ever run – a blood blood drive on April 25th from 1:00 – 7:00. You even get cookies after you donate!
If you’re bowling that day, give early and donate from the arm you don’t bowl with…..
This link will bring you directly to the registration page without having to search for our donation sign up page: https://rb.gy/8ydz0b
We’re co-sponsoring this event with the Kiwanis Club of Montclair and we’re also getting support from the town. Invite your friends and family to donate.
We’re hoping to get a huge turn out from the club with a lot of the members participating in the drive.
