Welcome to another season at the Commonwealth Club! The 121st season since our founding in 1904, and a very promising one it is shaping up to be. The spring and summer featured the Eagles taking the Club bowling league championship for the first time in many a moon; a very successful golf outing at Preakness Valley with 76 golfers and perfect weather; a fantastically fun Summer Bowling season with consistently good crowds and lots of guests each week, many who have since joined our club as full time bowling members.
Speaking of members, our Open House a couple of weeks ago was another success and our membership is now well above pre-pandemic levels, including a nice influx of junior members. We will have a full slate of 24 teams in the men's bowling league and the women's league that bowls every Monday night is also full up. Good times indeed!
We have a new entertainment chairman, Giancarlo Cordasco, and he has quite a slate of activities lined up for the coming months, and there are some community service events mixed in as well. Here's a taste:
Saturday, September 21st: Brookdale Park Conservancy Work Day; 10am-12pm Our own Don McLaughlin heads this fine organization and the Club's membership frequently lends a hand in the various clearing, planting, mulching and general improvement projects for this local public jewel.
Thursday, September 26th: Baseball themed Thirsty Thursday; 6:30pm; Mets and Yankees playing meaningful games in late September! Thursday Night Football! Ballpark-appropriate food and drink!
Saturday, October 12th: Mixed Bowling! Our first couples bowling night of the season; 7pm; $10/couple; guests welcome-always a blast!
Sunday, October 13th; Commonwealth Club BBQ and Oktoberfest; great food from our in-house chefs and plentiful drink as well; guests very much encouraged for this event!
Saturday, October 26th: Brookdale Park Conservancy Work Day (day 2 of 3)
Saturday, October 26th: Club Halloween Party-guests welcome and always a great time!<a
Thursday, October 31st: Annual Halloween Costume Portraits for groceries and coats to benefit Toni's Kitchen, Human Needs Pantry and the Montclair Salvation Army. Stop by and get your photo taken by our own professional photographer, Michael Stahl, when you bring along a bag of groceries or gently used winter clothing, especially coats and jackets.
CLUB SWAG!
Did you know that there is a website where you can order Commonwealth Club merch? There are flyers hanging in various places throughout the Club with a QR code that will take you straight there, but here's the link to the website: https://www.zazzle.com/store/commonwealth_club/products. Check it out-there are all kinds of stuff available, from hoodies to golf club covers and the Club makes a small slice from each sale, and, as we know, it pays to advertise!
NEW LINKEDIN PAGE!
The link to join the new CC Linkedin page is: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13079123/
Please join us and utilize another way to have membership interaction out of the public spotlight. Approved members can invite folks to join as well, so let's grow this thing! We already have more members than the original page ever did in its ten years of (non) existence, so come on down!
