Community

The Community Chest has been an important part of the Commonwealth Club for many years. Its mission has evolved over time, but we have always supported our community. We provide significant support to the Montclair Ambulance Unit and have donated to local food kitchens, youth programs, and causes important to our members and their families.

Building a Culture

Recently, one of our members proposed an idea that feels long overdue. The idea is simple: build a way—and a culture—within the club that encourages all of us to get more involved in our communities. It makes sense for the Club to lead by example and demonstrate social responsibility, with members representing the club positively through their actions.

Community Action Initiative

To make this happen, we have launched a Community Action Initiative. Our goal is to help members get involved by sharing opportunities to volunteer, participate in fundraisers, and support youth organizations. In short, we want everyone to feel more connected to our community. We already have a steering committee and are seeking more people to join.

We know many of you are already active in the community. As we launch this initiative, we’ll invite your suggestions for opportunities to share on Facebook and in a new section of our website, which will be updated regularly to keep everyone informed. For now, look for a weekly update on the Club’s Facebook page. We hope to form Club teams for fundraising runs, walks, bike rides, and other events, and we’ll share our involvement on social media. In addition to Toni’s Kitchen and Human Needs Food Pantry, the Club supports groups such as Montclair Ambulance Unit, Laptop Upcycle, Montclair Salvation Army, and the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence.
